OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH

The effective use of our occupational health services will help keep your employees healthy at work and assist in managing work-related health risks in the workplace, whilst allowing organisational compliance with the law.

Employees are a key business asset and essential to productivity and profitability. Genesis’s occupational health service aims to keep people well at work – physically and mentally.

Spirometry screening

It is a requirement of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 that health surveillance is undertaken where employees are exposed to a substance hazardous to health.  Employees who are likely to be exposed to respiratory sensitizers or to substances by inhalation that are known to have an adverse health effect (such as silicosis or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) should be provided with suitable respiratory checks.

We initially complete a questionnaire, then after providing brief instructions on how to proceed, the individual is asked to blow into the spirometer. Screening may be repeated to ensure results are consistent.

Spirometry screening will take approximately 15 minutes per person.

Audiometry screening

It is a requirement of the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 that suitable health surveillance that includes hearing checks, is undertaken for employees regularly exposed above the upper exposure action values, or who are otherwise at risk of hearing damage.

We initially complete a questionnaire and visually inspect the ears. A pure-tone audiogram is then used for screening. This provides a highly repeatable, exact reading of hearing thresholds by frequency, categorised to HSE recommended guidelines.

Audiometric screening will take approximately 15 minutes per person.

Hand arm vibration screening

It is a requirement of the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005 that suitable health surveillance is undertaken for employees regularly exposed above the upper exposure action values, or who are otherwise at risk to health from vibration exposure.

We provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 HAVs screening. This comprises the completion of a questionnaire and will take approximately 15 minutes per person.

Skin assessment

It is a requirement of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 that health surveillance is undertaken where employees are exposed to a substance hazardous to health.

Repeated exposure to certain substances can lead to dermatitis or other types of skin irritation. If detected early and corrective action is taken, the problem can be effectively controlled.

We initially complete a questionnaire followed by a skin examination and then offer skin care advice.

Skin assessment will take approximately 15 minutes per person.

Vision screening

Vision screening includes measurement of visual acuity, peripheral and colour vision testing.

This will take approximately 15 minutes per person.

Musculoskeletal surveillance

Musculoskeletal disorders are one of the most common causes of work related sickness absence. Musculoskeletal surveillance helps identify employees at greatest risk from occupational musculoskeletal disorders.

The initial assessment will include the completion of a questionnaire. This will take approximately 15 minutes per person.

Where is identified from the initial assessment that an employee requires further musculoskeletal surveillance or treatment, referral will be made to our Chartered Physiotherapists.

General health screening

We offer an inclusive employee health screening service, this includes the completion of an employment questionnaire, spirometry screening, audiometry screening, vision screening, routine urine analysis, musculoskeletal assessment, skin assessment, blood pressure, measurement of height, weight and BMI.

This will take approximately 60 minutes per person.

Fitness for work / management referrals

Employee absence can result in significant cost and disruption to organisations.

We can assist employers to address both short and long-term absence within the work place. We offer prompt appointments to ensure the swift identification and management of problems and to efficiently support employees back into the workplace.  Early referral helps to develop and maintain a healthier, more productive workforce.

The duration of fitness for work / management referrals will vary dependent on each specific case, however average appointment times are 60 minutes.

Ergonomic assessment

An assessment of employee workstations will be undertaken by an ergonomic specialist. This will identify factors or work activities that may be causing postural pain or repetitive strains and will recommend specific adjustments to optimise working abilities.

This will take approximately 30 minutes per person.

  • Mobile equipment operators
